Having a daughter like you makes it even more rewarding to be a mother. Thanks Jes. Watching you grow into a beautiful sensitive loving woman and knowing I got to be a part of that is incredible. You are such a joy.

Um…ANNIE GET YOUR GUN!!!! And seriously…maybe we should watch a musical tomorrow night! I LOOOOVE them….I have been in love with them since childhood. If I were independently wealthy, I would pack up, move to NYC, and make sure I saw a Broadway (or off-Broadway) masterpiece at least once a week.

And seriously…we like way too much of the same stuff. It’s getting creepy.

One phrase I like is “Do not mistake kindness for weakness,” and I think often people do exactly that. Letting someone else have the glory, doing something nice, etc, giving someone the advantage isn’t a lack of strength but often a demonstration of it. How much better our society would be if we didn’t glorify John Wayne as much as Alan Alda, if we valued philosophers more than football players. But I digress. I’m glad you listed kindness and all the other items in this letter and the rest. How cool!

What a great jump – from ice cream to identity! One reason I really enjoy reading Anthony DeMello is because he talks about the Self not as a brilliant goal as in many “self-help” books but more as illusion, a potential obstacle if one is attached to the concept. Identity is something we have but not something we must cling to since we are each dynamic, ever-”becoming,” despite having primarily static characteristics and preferences. I catch myself compartmentalizing people and places rather than truly seeing them in the moment-by-moment, and I have the most trouble with myself, seeing me beyond a concept.

This may not be coming across coherently. My apologies.

Anyway, love this series!
